Delta Driveway & Pavers: The Austin Owner’s Guide
If you have a Delta driveway or paver surface that’s cracked, shifted, or sinking, we stock the replacement materials and install them for $7,000 – $18,000 on a standard Austin driveway, depending on square footage and the existing base condition. We carry Delta-compatible pavers plus the full range of edging, bedding sand, and jointing compounds needed to match what’s already in your yard. Most Austin homeowners call us after a heavy rain season when they notice one section has settled lower than the rest, or when pavers near the garage apron have started to wobble underfoot.
Here’s the thing about paver failures in Central Texas: they rarely happen all at once. What you usually see first is a single paver that’s rocking when you step on it, or a low spot holding water after a storm. That means the base underneath has started to fail, and the pavers themselves are just along for the ride. Delta’s paver lines hold up well against Texas heat, but no paver survives a failing base, and in Austin’s expansive clay soil, base failure is more common than people expect.
We’re not affiliated with Delta. We’re an independent installer that stocks and works with their products alongside other professional-grade materials.
Which Delta Models This Applies To

Delta manufactures several paver lines used across Austin driveways and patios, and the replacement path depends on which one you have. The most common in this market are their Holland stone (rectangular, roughly 4″ x 8″), their larger-format plaza slabs (12″ x 12″ and 16″ x 16″), and their permeable pavers, which have wider joints designed for drainage. If you can read the stamp on the underside of a loose paver, that’s the fastest way to identify what you have. If not, measure the face dimensions and joint width and we can usually match it from photos.
The compatibility gotcha with Delta specifically: their color batches vary more than some competitors, especially in the tumbled and antiqued finishes. A paver bought today in “Sierra Blend” may not match the same named color cast five years ago. When we do a partial replacement, we’ll pull pavers from a less visible area of your driveway to patch the visible section, then install the new material where it’s less noticeable. That’s a trick that saves you from a patchwork driveway.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: for Delta pavers, we always recommend genuine Delta product for anything visible. The dimensional tolerances on aftermarket lookalikes are often off by just enough that the joints won’t line up, and over a 400-square-foot driveway, those small errors compound. For what’s underneath the pavers, the bedding sand and base rock are commodity materials and we use the best available for Austin soil conditions, not a specific brand.

Signs Your Delta Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Rocking or wobbling pavers underfoot. The bedding sand has washed out or compacted unevenly below. This is the earliest warning sign and also the cheapest point to fix.
- Low spots that hold water 24 hours after rain. The base under that section has settled, usually where the original excavation wasn’t compacted evenly or a downspout has been saturating the soil. Austin’s clay expands and contracts enough to create these dips over five to seven years.
- Growing gaps between pavers or at the edges. Without proper edge restraint, the entire field shifts outward from traffic pressure. You’ll notice this first along the driveway borders where the edging meets the lawn.
- White chalky residue on the paver surface. Efflorescence, a mineral deposit that comes through the paver. It’s cosmetic and not structural, but it’s a sign of moisture moving through the joints, which over time breaks down jointing sand.
- Sinking near the garage apron or street apron. The heaviest loads are at the transitions, and Austin’s clay soil compresses under repeated vehicle weight at those pressure points. This one won’t fix itself, and it can eventually crack pavers outright.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Austin, a full Delta paver driveway replacement runs $7,000 – $18,000 installed. That range covers everything from a standard two-car driveway on stable soil to a longer driveway with a failing base that needs full excavation and rebuild. What drives the cost: square footage, access for equipment, whether we’re reusing your existing pavers or installing new, and how much of the base has to come out and be rebuilt.
Here’s the line-item breakdown for a typical Austin paver driveway replacement:
- Excavation and haul-away of old surface: $800 – $2,200
- Base material (crushed limestone typically 4″ – 6″ compacted): $1,500 – $3,500
- Bedding sand: $400 – $900
- Delta pavers (material only): $3,000 – $8,000 depending on style and square footage
- Edge restraint and jointing compound: $600 – $1,400
- Labor: $700 – $2,000
Every quote we give in Austin is a written price before any work starts. No verbal estimates that grow later. We include the workmanship warranty for 365 days from completion, and if something fails in that window, we return at no charge to fix it. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise, and it applies to every driveway and paver job we take.

You can safely check a few things yourself: mark the low spots with sidewalk chalk after a rain and watch what drains where, check whether the edge restraint is still in place along the driveway border, and see if any individual pavers rock when you step on the corners. None of that requires lifting anything.
What goes wrong with DIY on pavers: people pull up the sunken section, add a bag of sand from the big-box store, and set the pavers back down. It looks fine for two months. Then the first good rain washes that uncompacted sand out and you’re back to where you started, usually with more loose pavers than before. Proper base repair means excavating to the true failure depth, compacting in lifts, and re-bedding the entire affected area as one unit. It’s slow work that requires a plate compactor and a lot of patience. If you’d rather not rent equipment and guess at the depth, call us at (903) 623-1966 and we’ll give you a straight price.
FAQs

Delta pavers themselves typically last 25 – 30 years, but the installed system in Austin usually needs some base or joint attention around the 7 – 10 year mark due to clay soil movement. The pavers won’t wear out; the ground under them changes, and that’s what dictates your maintenance timeline. Call (903) 623-1966 and we’ll tell you honestly whether you need a repair or a full rebuild.
Yes, in most cases. If the failure is localized and the surrounding pavers are still solid, we can do a sectional repair: re-excavate the affected area, rebuild the base, and reset the pavers. A sectional repair in Austin typically runs $1,200 – $3,800 depending on size. We’ll tell you directly if a patch job makes sense or if you’d be throwing money at a base that’s failing everywhere.
Most Austin paver driveway replacements take three to five working days from excavation to finished surface. Weather can stretch that, and if the base failure is deeper than expected, we’ll tell you before we extend the timeline. The most common delay is discovering decomposed granite or buried tree roots under the old base, something we can’t always see until we open it up.
We stock the most common Delta Holland stone sizes and colors on our trucks for same-week installation, along with bedding sand, edge restraint, and jointing compound. For large-format plaza slabs or permeable pavers, we order from our supplier network alongside our other professional-grade partners like Belgard, Unilock, and Techo-Bloc, usually a three to five day lead time in Austin. If you know your paver size and color, call us and we’ll check inventory while you’re on the phone.
