CWS Kitchen Remodeling: The Austin Owner’s Guide

If your CWS kitchen has a failed cabinet hinge, a warped drawer front, or a sink base that’s starting to sag, we can match the part and install it, usually within a few days of your call. A full CWS kitchen remodel in Austin typically runs $14,000 to $45,000, but a single part replacement like a hinge pack, drawer slide set, or a replacement door panel is far less, often $150 to $900 installed depending on what’s worn out. Most Austin homeowners realize something’s off when a drawer starts grinding, a door won’t stay closed, or the laminate edge on a counter starts peeling back near the sink.

We’re an independent Austin contractor, not affiliated with CWS, which means we can source OEM CWS components or equivalent aftermarket parts without being tied to a single distributor’s price or lead time. Isaac Pruett and our crew have opened enough CWS cabinet boxes to know which parts fail first in Austin’s humidity swings and which ones are worth replacing versus repairing.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS kitchen cabinetry and counters have shipped through a few different series lines over the years, and the part you need depends on which one you have. The most common we see in Austin homes are the CWS builder-grade series with frameless construction and the mid-line series with plywood boxes and soft-close hardware, usually from the 2010s forward. If you can pull one drawer out and look at the inside of the cabinet face frame, you’ll usually find a small label or stamp with the series name and sometimes a production date.

The compatibility gotcha is this: CWS changed hinge cup spacing on several of their overlay door styles around 2016, so a hinge that fits a 2014 door will not always fit a 2018 door even if both say CWS on the box. We carry both the 35mm and the older 26mm cup hinges on the truck for exactly this reason. For drawer slides, CWS used side-mount slides on some lines and under-mount on others, and they are not interchangeable without drilling new holes in the drawer box. When we quote a part, we ask for a photo of the existing hardware and the cabinet label before we order, so you’re not paying for a part that doesn’t fit.

Signs Your CWS Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Drawer won’t close flush or falls open. The soft-close mechanism inside the slide has lost tension or a nylon roller cracked from years of slamming. This is the most common CWS failure we see, especially on the trash pull-out cabinet because it gets the most daily cycles.
  • Door hangs at an angle or rubs the frame. The hinge cup has loosened or the mounting plate screws stripped out of the particleboard. Austin’s humidity cycles expand and contract the board, and once a screw strips, the door will never sit right until the hole is repaired and a new hinge is set.
  • Laminate edge peeling near the dishwasher or sink. Steam and moisture have worked through the edge banding adhesive. CWS counters with a standard post-formed laminate top are vulnerable at the end seam, and once water gets under the laminate, the substrate swells and the peeling accelerates.
  • Soft-close no longer soft-closes. The damper inside the hinge or slide has lost its fluid or the piston seal dried out. You can replace just the damper assemblies on some CWS hinges, but on the slide-mounted soft-close drawers, the entire slide usually needs to come out.
  • Cabinet frame separating at the corner joint. This is more serious than a hardware problem. The mechanical fastener or dowel has failed, usually from an overloaded cabinet or a sink base that has been getting wet at the toe kick for years. It’s repairable, but it needs to be addressed before the counter above it starts to flex.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled kitchen with painted cabinets and a farmhouse sink

A targeted CWS part replacement in Austin most often lands between $150 and $900 installed. That covers the part itself, the trip, and the labor to remove the old hardware, repair any stripped screw holes, set the new part, and adjust the door or drawer so it closes true. If we’re replacing multiple drawers or a full door set, the labor scales but the per-part cost drops, since we’re on site and already set up.

A full CWS kitchen remodel in Austin runs $14,000 to $45,000, and the spread comes down to material grade, whether the cabinet boxes themselves are salvageable, and what’s happening with the counter, backsplash, and plumbing. The range assumes new cabinetry or refacing, new countertops, and fixture work, but not a full layout change with structural modifications. Every quote we give is a written price before any work starts, and every part we install carries a one-year workmanship warranty from the completion date.

DIY or Call Us?

Replacing a hinge or a drawer slide is a job a patient homeowner can do themselves, provided the cabinet box is still square and the old screw holes haven’t stripped out. The problem is that on older CWS cabinets, the particleboard behind the hinge plate is often the real failure point, and just drilling new screws won’t hold. That’s when you need wood filler, new pilot holes, and sometimes a steel repair plate.

Any work involving gas lines, electrical, or a countertop that has to come off the cabinets to reach the failure is a call-us job. Full stop. We’ve seen homeowners pull a sink base apart trying to replace a slide, only to crack the counter seam and turn a $300 repair into a $3,000 counter replacement. Call (903) 623-1966. Tell us what’s wrong with it. We’ll figure out what it actually needs.
