Cover Fence Installation: The Austin Owner’s Guide

Cover fence installation in Austin typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a complete privacy fence, depending on linear footage, material grade, and whether we’re replacing rotted posts or starting fresh. We stock Cover-compatible fence components and matching hardware on our trucks, so most repair or replacement jobs get done in one visit. The way most Austin homeowners find us is simple: a section leans after a storm, a gate drags on the ground, or the neighbor’s dog found a new way through. By the time you’re reading this, you’ve probably already pushed on a post and felt it give.

Here’s what you need to know before you call: the price, what fails first in Central Texas dirt, and who’s actually showing up to your house.

Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover’s fencing systems come in a few distinct product lines, and the hardware is not always interchangeable between them. The most common we see in Austin neighborhoods like Mueller, Hyde Park, and Circle C are the Cover aluminum privacy panels and the Cover residential wood-alternative composite pickets. Before you order anything, check the backside of a panel or the gate frame for a stamped part number. Cover prints them small, usually near a bottom rail or on the hinge plate, and that number is the fastest way to get an exact match on rails, pickets, and bracket kits.

One compatibility gotcha we run into regularly: Cover’s composite picket spacing changed around 2021, and older panels cannot accept the newer snap-in bracket design without drilling fresh holes. We carry both the OEM Cover parts and a handful of aftermarket aluminum rails that match the Cover profile at about two-thirds the cost. For structural posts and concrete anchoring, we use post-grade steel inserts rated for the same wind load as Cover’s factory spec. Isaac Pruett, our owner, will tell you straight: the OEM part is worth the premium when it comes to gate hinges and latch assemblies. For pickets and rails, a quality aftermarket equivalent holds up fine in Austin’s climate if it’s installed with the right fasteners.

Signs Your Cover Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Posts leaning or tilting at the base. In Austin’s clay-heavy soil, freeze-thaw cycles and long dry spells cause ground movement that loosens even well-set concrete footings. A post that moves more than half an inch when you push it means the footing has failed, not the panel.
  • Gate dragging or sagging on the hinge side. Cover gate frames are light-gauge aluminum, and the hinge screws eventually wallow out the mounting holes. You’ll see the gate scraping the ground on the latch side and a visible gap at the top hinge.
  • Pickets cracked, warped, or pulling away from the rail. Central Texas sun is hard on composite materials. UV exposure over 3 to 5 years makes Cover pickets brittle, and once the snap-lock tabs break, the picket hangs loose and catches wind.
  • Rail brackets rusted or sheared off. The factory brackets are powder-coated, but the coating scratches during install and rust creeps in. We replace these with stainless steel brackets on every Austin job because the humidity cycle here accelerates corrosion faster than the manufacturer’s testing assumed.
  • Fence section bowing outward between posts. This one is a structural sign, not a part failure. Wind loads push the panel past its span rating, usually because a post-to-post distance is too wide or the original installer skipped mid-span bracing.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

For Austin, expect $3,500 to $9,000 for a full Cover fence installation or major section replacement. On the low end, you’re looking at a 50 to 75 linear foot run with existing posts still square and solid. On the high end, we’re pulling old footings, hauling off the failed section, and re-setting every post in new concrete before hanging panels. The middle of that range, around $5,500 to $7,000, covers most typical backyard privacy fences in this market.

Here’s what drives the price:

  • Scope of repair. A gate replacement alone runs $400 to $900. A full side-yard run with new posts runs $3,000 to $5,000. Replacing the whole perimeter pushes toward the top of the range.
  • Post condition. If your posts are plumb and solid, you save the cost of digging and concrete work, which is roughly $60 to $100 per post in Austin labor rates.
  • Material choice. OEM Cover panels cost more than aftermarket equivalents, but they match existing sections perfectly. We show you both options with a written line-item quote before any work starts.
  • Access and grading. Fences on slopes or with tight side-yard clearance take longer to set properly. No surprise upcharges at the end, just honest numbers on the front end.

Every Cover fence installation we do includes our written guarantee: 365 days from the completion date, if the work is not right, Mason Remodeling fixes it at no cost to the homeowner. That covers post alignment, panel fit, gate swing, and hardware function. We put the price in writing before a single tool comes off the truck, and that price does not change once work starts.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself. Walk the fence line after a storm and note which posts wobble. Check gate hinges for loose screws and stripped holes. Look for cracked pickets and rust on the brackets. That diagnosis helps us give you an accurate phone estimate. What you should not do is try to re-set a failed post or re-hang a heavy Cover gate alone. Digging out old concrete footings in Austin clay is slow, physically punishing work, and a gate that comes off its hinges can crush a foot or hand in a second. The panels themselves are light, but the post-work and concrete are where DIYers get hurt or end up with a fence that leans again by spring. Call (903) 623-1966 and tell us what’s wrong with it. We’ll figure out what it actually needs.
