CertainTeed Fence Installation: The Austin Owner’s Guide
CertainTeed fence installation in Austin typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a full perimeter, depending on linear footage, style, and whether we’re pulling old posts or starting clean. We stock CertainTeed-compatible components on our trucks and can match your existing fence line, Buckingham and Simplicity being the two lines we see most in Central Texas. Most homeowners call us after a storm or a hot summer day when a post has shifted or a section has started leaning, and you can see the gap widening at the top rail before the whole run starts to sag. If that’s what you’re looking at, here’s what you need to know before you spend a dollar.
Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

CertainTeed builds two main fence lines we work with regularly: Buckingham and Simplicity. Buckingham is the premium vinyl line with a thicker wall profile and a more pronounced wood-grain texture. Simplicity is the value line, thinner panels, cleaner face, still holds up in Austin heat but you’ll feel the difference when you thump it. Both use the same post-and-rail system, so if you’re replacing a section and the existing posts are sound, we can usually match the panel profile by measuring the wall thickness and the V-groove spacing. The compatibility gotcha most owners hit is this: CertainTeed changed their locking-tab profile on Buckingham around 2016, so a panel bought today will not seat into a pre-2016 top rail without a retrofit clip. If you’re not sure what you have, we can tell from a photo of the inside rail lip.
Mason Remodeling Co Austin is an independent service provider. We are not a CertainTeed dealer or affiliated warranty center. What that means for you is practical: we install the material, we don’t sell you on a brand loyalty program. We also carry compatible profiles for KraftMaid cabinetry and Cambria and Silestone surfaces, so if your fence project turns into a broader exterior refresh, we’re already set up to handle it.

Signs Your CertainTeed Fence Installation Is Failing
- Post lean at the gate line. The gate post takes more lateral load than any other post in the run. Once the bottom of that post starts to rotate, the gate drags, then stops latching. We see this most in Blackland Prairie clay, which shrinks and swells hard with moisture swings.
- Panel blowout after a storm. Vinyl fence panels are not rated for high lateral wind. When a panel pops out of the top and bottom rails, the tab might still be intact. If the tab is cracked, you need a new panel section, not a re-seat.
- Chalky surface and hairline cracks. Austin’s UV index does a number on vinyl over 8 to 10 years. Chalkiness is cosmetic. Hairline cracks at the corners of the routed rails mean the material has gone brittle and the next impact will break it clean through.
- Bottom rail sag between posts. This is usually a post spacing problem, not a rail problem. CertainTeed specs a maximum span, and when a previous installer stretched it to save a post or two, the bottom rail bows. You can fix it with a mid-span stiffener, but the longer fix is one more post in the run.
- Gate sag on the hinge side. If the hinge screws have stripped the vinyl, the post core wasn’t reinforced properly. In Austin, where the ground shifts with the seasons, a gate post needs a full-height aluminum stiffener inside the vinyl. Without it, you’ll re-tighten the hinges every single year.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a typical Austin backyard, a full CertainTeed-compatible fence replacement runs $3,500 to $9,000. The range comes down to three things: total linear feet, whether we’re reusing the existing posts or setting new ones in concrete, and which line you want, Simplicity or Buckingham. A 40-foot side yard with four reused posts is the low end. A 150-foot perimeter with all new posts, a gate, and tear-out of the old fence is the high end.
Every quote we write includes the same line items: material, labor, concrete for post footing (Austin code calls for a minimum depth below the frost line zone we deal with here, but practically we go 24 to 30 inches for stability in clay), gate hardware, and haul-away of the old material. The price we give you in writing is the price you pay. If we find something unexpected when we start pulling posts, we stop and show you before a single dollar changes. The workmanship warranty runs 365 days from the completion date. After that, it’s a conversation, but the written guarantee is clear on what’s covered and what’s not.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things on your own. Look for a gap between the post and the soil line, which tells you the post has shifted. Check whether the gate latches without lifting. Look for cracks at rail corners. That’s all useful information to have when you call, and it helps us tell you honestly whether you’re looking at a $200 section repair or a fence replacement. What you should not do is dig out and reset a post on a fence line that carries the gate. The gate post is under constant lever stress, and a partially reset post standing in loose soil is a fall hazard for a child or a dog. If you’ve got a wobbly gate post, call us. Tell me what’s wrong with it. We’ll figure out what it actually needs.
FAQs

In Austin’s sun and clay soil, a properly installed CertainTeed-style vinyl fence lasts 15 to 20 years before the material starts to chalk and get brittle. Posts generally last longer than panels. What fails first here is rarely the vinyl itself; it’s the post footing shifting in the expansive clay.
Yes, we can match a section, but the real question is the age of the rest of the fence. If your existing fence is 10 years old, a new panel will look brighter and whiter than the old ones. If that bothers you, a full replacement makes more sense. If it doesn’t, we’ll repair the one section and leave the rest alone. Call (903) 623-1966 and we’ll tell you straight what the visual difference will be.
Most Austin fence replacements take two to three working days. Tear-out and post setting happen on day one. Panels and gate go up on day two. Some larger runs push into a third day for grading and cleanup. We give you a schedule before we start, not after.
We carry a range of common CertainTeed-compatible post caps, rail clips, panel sections, and gate hardware on our trucks, so for typical repairs we don’t have to make a second trip. If you need something specific, we’ll call it in and have it before your install date. Call (903) 623-1966 for a free estimate and we’ll tell you exactly what’s available.
