CertainTeed Driveway & Pavers: The Austin Owner’s Guide
CertainTeed driveway and paver repair and replacement in Austin typically runs $7,000 – $18,000 installed, depending on square footage, base condition, and the specific CertainTeed product line you’re matching. We stock compatible CertainTeed pavers and edge restraints on our trucks, and in most cases we can have the right product matched to your existing installation within a few days. Most Austin homeowners discover they have a problem the way you probably did: a paver or section of the driveway has shifted, cracked, or settled after a heavy rain, and now water pools where it didn’t before, or a paver has split under wheel load.
Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

CertainTeed’s hardscape line is narrower than its roofing division, but the products have specific compatibility requirements you’ll want to get right. The primary paver lines are the CertainTeed Paving Stones and the CertainTeed Paver Collection, both of which come in modular sizing built around a 4″ x 8″ and 8″ x 8″ base unit. Here’s the gotcha: CertainTeed pavers run in thicknesses of 60mm and 80mm. If your original install used 60mm pavers on a residential driveway, you can’t swap in an 80mm paver to patch a failed area without creating a lip and a trip hazard. You need to match the thickness, not just the face dimensions.
Most CertainTeed pavers have the manufacturer stamp on the back or bottom edge. If the stamp is worn, we measure thickness with a caliper and match it that way. For OEM versus aftermarket: CertainTeed’s color blends (especially charcoal, sandstone, and the red-tinged terra cotta blend) are not perfectly matched by generic big-box pavers. If you care about the patch blending in, OEM is the way to go. If you’re replacing a full section and color drift is acceptable, a quality aftermarket paver from a Texas supplier will save you 20 – 30% on materials. We’ll show you both options and the price difference before you decide anything.

Signs Your CertainTeed Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Sunken or lipped pavers near the garage apron. This is almost always base failure from Austin’s clay soil expanding and contracting through wet-dry cycles. The pavers themselves are usually fine; the base underneath compacted unevenly.
- Water pooling in low spots after rain. Austin gets intense, short bursts of rain, and poor drainage will undermine the sand bedding over time. Once pooling starts, the failure accelerates.
- Cracked or split pavers in the wheel track. This is a loading problem. A 60mm paver on an under-built base will crack under repeated vehicle weight, especially from trucks or SUVs. Once one cracks, its neighbors take more load and follow.
- Edge restraints pulling away along the driveway border. Austin’s freeze-thaw is mild, but our summers are brutal. The expansion and contraction of plastic edge restraints in 100° heat loosens them, and the outer course of pavers starts drifting outward.
- Weeds or ants pushing up between pavers. When the sand joint material washes out or degrades, you’ll see ant mounds and weeds within weeks. That means water is getting under the pavers, and the base is washing away a little at a time.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Paver driveway installation in Austin runs $7,000 – $18,000, and the range mostly comes down to square footage and what we find when we open up the base. A standard two-car driveway with a failing base is usually in the $9,000 – $13,000 range. If the base is intact and we’re doing a surface-level paver replacement, you’re looking at the lower end of the range. Full teardown with base rebuild, new sand bedding, and pavers lands at the upper end.
Every quote includes the pavers, sand, base material, haul-away of the old material, and labor. Before any work starts, you get a written price. Not a verbal estimate. A written line-item price. If the base condition turns out to be worse than we thought once we open it up, we stop and bring you back out to look at it before we spend another dollar. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something’s not right within a year of completion, we fix it at no cost to you.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. You can safely check the edge restraints yourself: walk the perimeter and look for sections that have pulled away from the concrete curb or asphalt. You can also mark sunken areas with a spray paint dot so we can see the full pattern when we arrive. What you shouldn’t do is start pulling up pavers to “look at the base.” Once you disturb the sand bedding and pull out edge restraints, you’ve created a bigger repair than you started with, and matching the original sand compaction on a patch is harder than most people expect. Pavers are heavy. A 4″ x 8″ x 60mm paver weighs about 5 pounds, and a full driveway project means moving thousands of them. If your back or your schedule objects to that, call us at (903) 623-1966 and we’ll put eyes on it.
FAQs

CertainTeed pavers themselves carry a limited lifetime warranty, but the real lifespan of the installation depends on the base. In Austin’s clay soil, a properly built base with adequate drainage should give you 25 – 30 years before you need significant work. A poorly built base can fail in 5 years, no matter how good the paver is. Call (903) 623-1966 and we’ll tell you honestly which one you’ve got.
Yes, if the sunken area is localized and the rest of the base is stable. We lift the affected section, re-compact the base with the right material, re-set the pavers, and re-sand the joints. The catch is that if the base failure runs deep or wide, a patch will just re-sink in a year or two. The quote will tell you what you actually need, not what’s cheapest to do today.
A standard two-car driveway teardown and replacement usually takes 3 to 5 working days from demo to final sand. If we’re patching a section rather than replacing the whole thing, it’s often a one-day job. Rain days will extend the schedule, and we’ll tell you that upfront. Call us at (903) 623-1966 for a time estimate on your specific driveway.
We keep common CertainTeed paver sizes, thicknesses, and color blends in our Austin stock, and we source directly from CertainTeed’s Texas distribution network for anything we don’t have on hand. You never have to order material yourself or coordinate delivery. We also stock compatible products from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for other parts of your home, but for driveway and paver work, we’re ordering and installing CertainTeed-specific product.
If your CertainTeed driveway is showing its age, or if you’ve got a sunken section that’s been bothering you, call us at (903) 623-1966 for a free estimate. Tell me what’s wrong with it. We’ll figure out what it actually needs.
