Belgard Bathroom Remodeling: The Austin Owner’s Guide
Belgard bathroom remodeling in Austin typically runs $9,000 to $28,000 for a full installation, and our crew stocks Belgard-compatible materials on the truck for most common repairs and replacements. We’re not a parts desk that hands you a box and wishes you luck. We quote the installed cost, bring the material, and handle the work through final cleanup.
Most homeowners call us because something failed: a Belgard paver on a shower floor has shifted, a Belgard wall panel has cracked at the seam, or the Belgard porcelain tile they installed five years ago has started popping loose along the curb. They often assume one bad piece means pulling the whole bathroom apart. It usually doesn’t. Tell me what’s wrong with it. We’ll figure out what it actually needs.
A note up front: Mason Remodeling Co Austin is an independent service provider. We install and repair Belgard products but we’re not a Belgard dealership or manufacturer affiliate. That independence matters when we tell you a part is or isn’t worth paying OEM prices for.
Which Belgard Models This Applies To

Belgard’s bathroom line falls under their porcelain paver and wall cladding systems: the Melville Plank series, the Arterra Porcelain Pavers, and the Mirage Porcelain Panels are the three we see most in Austin homes. Each has a different thickness tolerance and a different installation method, and that’s where DIY and even some general contractors get into trouble.
Melville Plank tiles run 6mm to 9mm thick and get installed with a modified thinset on shower walls. Arterra pavers are 20mm and sit on a pedestal system or mud bed for shower floors. Mirage panels are large-format, up to 48 inches by 110 inches, and they require a specific Schluter strip – the metal trim that seals the edge where tile meets flooring – to keep the edges from chipping. If you’re trying to match an existing Belgard piece, check the back of the tile for the series stamp, or measure the thickness in millimeters. A 9mm Melville Plank is not interchangeable with an Arterra paver, even if they look identical from the top.
For most replacements, we recommend OEM Belgard stock when the piece is visible and the color match matters. For hidden or undersurface pieces, a quality aftermarket equivalent from a brand like MSI or Daltile often does the job at 30 to 40 percent less. We’ll tell you which makes sense for your job before we order anything.

Signs Your Belgard Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Hollow-sounding tiles on the shower floor. The thinset bond has broken, usually from water intrusion or a bad original mud bed. Left alone, the tile cracks underfoot and you’re looking at a full floor pull instead of a spot repair.
- Cracked or chipped edges along the curb or bench. Austin’s hard water means mineral buildup, and that buildup expands and contracts with shower heat. Edges go first because they’re the thinnest point of the tile.
- Discoloration or efflorescence on pavers. That white crust is salt migration from trapped moisture. It’s a warning that the drainage layer underneath isn’t working, not just a cosmetic issue.
- Grout crumbling or falling out in sheets. Belgard porcelain expands and contracts at a different rate than standard grout. If the installer used unsanded grout on a paver floor, it will fail inside two or three Austin summers.
- Water pooling in corners that used to drain. The pitch on the shower pan has settled, usually because the subfloor underneath shifted during a dry-season foundation cycle. Austin’s clay soil moves, and tile doesn’t flex with it.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Full Belgard bathroom remodels in Austin run $9,000 to $28,000 depending on square footage, whether you’re replacing the shower pan, and the series of Belgard material you choose. A walk-in shower alone with Belgard Arterra pavers lands between $4,500 and $12,000. A tub-to-shower conversion using Melville Plank runs $3,500 to $10,000.
What drives the range: the size of the shower footprint, whether the subfloor needs repair, and whether you’re changing plumbing locations. Moving a drain line adds real cost because Austin code requires a specific slope on shower drains and we pull permits on that work.
Every quote we write is a fixed, line-item price delivered before any work starts. Parts and labor are separated on the invoice so you see exactly what the Belgard material costs and exactly what our time costs. No change orders unless you ask us to change something. The workmanship is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right within a year of completion, we make it right at no cost to you.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: look at the back of a loose tile for the series stamp, measure the thickness with a caliper if you have one, and take photos of the failed area from three angles. That information helps us quote accurately over the phone.
What you should not do is pull Belgard tile off a shower wall or floor yourself. Porcelain is under tension once it’s bonded, and a broken piece can send shards flying when it gives way. The bigger risk is water damage: once you break the waterproof membrane behind the tile, you’ve turned a $400 repair into a $4,000 subfloor replacement. Austin’s humidity means mold sets in fast. Call us at (903) 623-1966 and we’ll take it from there.
FAQs

With proper installation, Belgard porcelain in an Austin bathroom lasts 20 to 30 years before the surface shows meaningful wear. The failure point is almost never the Belgard material. It’s the waterproofing underneath, the grout, or the subfloor. We’ve pulled 15-year-old Belgard pavers that looked new but had a rotted mud bed beneath them.
Yes, if the crack is hairline and the tile is still fully bonded, a color-matched epoxy repair can buy you years for under $200. If the tile moves when you press on it, the bond is gone and repair won’t hold. Call us at (903) 623-1966 and text us a photo, we’ll tell you which situation you have before we schedule anything.
Most Belgard shower floor replacements take two to three working days. Day one is demo and subfloor inspection, day two is pan installation and waterproofing, day three is tile set and grout. Add one day if we’re pulling permits or the subfloor needs repair.
We stock common Belgard Arterra pavers, Melville Plank in the three most common Austin finishes, and Schluter edge strips on our trucks. Uncommon colors or Mirage panel sizes are ordered direct and usually arrive in three to five business days. Either way, we quote lead time in writing before you commit.
