Barrette Kitchen Remodeling: The Austin Owner’s Guide

If you have a Barrette kitchen component that’s failed or worn out, we stock and install Barrette-compatible replacement parts across Austin, with most kitchen hardware swaps running $250 – $1,200 installed depending on the part. The typical full kitchen remodeling project in Austin runs $14,000 to $45,000, but when you’re dealing with a single failed Barrette part rather than a full gut, the cost is usually far less. You’ll know something’s wrong the way most homeowners do: a drawer that won’t stay closed, a hinge that’s stripped out, or a cabinet door that’s suddenly sagging at an angle a level can’t explain.

Call (903) 623-1966

We’re an independent Austin remodeling and service provider, not a Barrette affiliate, so our interest is in matching the right part to your model and getting it installed correctly the first time. Mason Remodeling Co Austin has been handling kitchen hardware, cabinet, and full remodeling work in Austin since 2004, and Isaac Pruett and his crew have seen just about every failure mode a Barrette part can throw at a kitchen.

Which Barrette Models This Applies To

An open kitchen and dining area after a remodel

Barrette hardware shows up across several cabinet and closet system lines, and the compatibility gotcha that catches most Austin homeowners is assuming any hinge or slide will fit any Barrette cabinet. It won’t. Barrette has used different mounting hole patterns across its product generations, and a hinge that fits a 2015-era Barrette pantry cabinet may sit a full quarter-inch off on a newer flat-pack cabinet from a big-box line.

Before you call, look inside the cabinet or drawer. Barrette stamps a small model or series code on the hinge cup or along the slide rail, usually a letter-number combination like B200 or BR-35. Measure the hinge cup diameter too: 35mm is the most common, but we’ve pulled 26mm and 40mm cups out of Barrette’s commercial and specialty lines in Austin kitchens. If the stamp is worn off, bring the failed part in or text us a photo. We’ll match it.

For the OEM-versus-aftermarket call: Barrette’s own replacement parts are the safest fit and we’d recommend them for anything that carries load, like drawer slides or a corner cabinet hinge. For cosmetic hardware like bumpers and shelf clips, quality aftermarket equivalents from brands like Liberty or Blum work fine and usually cost less. We’ll tell you straight which is which, and we never put a lower-grade part where a load-bearing one belongs.

Signs Your Barrette Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Drawer slides are grinding or catching. The ball bearings inside a Barrette slide wear out over time, especially in Texas heat, which dries out the factory grease and causes metal-on-metal drag. If the drawer fights you halfway out, the slide is done.
  • Cabinet door is sagging or won’t close flush. A worn hinge cup means the door droops by an eighth-inch or more. You can tighten the screws, but if the cup itself is ovaled out, tightening won’t fix anything.
  • Soft-close mechanism stopped working. Barrette soft-close dampers are typically fluid-filled pistons. In Austin’s summer attic-to-kitchen temperature swings, the fluid leaks or the piston seal dries out. The door slams shut or just doesn’t catch.
  • Pegs, shelf clips, or cam locks have snapped in the holes. These are the most common Barrette failures we see, especially in pantry and cabinet systems that get overloaded. Once the plastic crimps or the cam pin shears, the shelf will drop regardless of how much you shim it back in.
  • The cabinet frame itself has pulled apart at the corner. Heat and humidity cycles in Austin loosen the cam-lock joints that hold Barrette flat-pack frames together. If the side panel has separated from the bottom rail by more than a quarter-inch, the part isn’t a clip or hinge, it’s a structural repair.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A galley kitchen opened up to the dining room with a new peninsula

For the Barrette part itself plus our install labor, here’s how Austin pricing breaks down on the jobs we do most often:

Barrette Part / Job Installed Price Range (Austin)
Drawer slide replacement, single pair $250 – $400
Cabinet hinge replacement, 1 – 3 hinges $200 – $350
Soft-close damper replacement, full cabinet $350 – $800
Shelf clip / cam lock replacement, full unit $150 – $300
Structural corner repair (cam joints, panels) $500 – $1,200
Full Barrette cabinet installation (new build) $4,000 – $13,000
Complete kitchen remodel including cabinets, counters, backsplash $14,000 – $45,000

The range in any of those numbers comes down to two things: how many parts need to be matched and whether the cabinet boxes are still square. A single stripped hinge on a square cabinet is an easy morning job. A sagging pantry with three different failed components is a longer, slower repair. You get a written price before any work starts, and every completed job carries our written guarantee for 365 days from the completion date. If the repair or installation fails within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

Some Barrette parts are genuinely safe to swap yourself, and we’ll be the first to tell you that. If it’s a shelf clip, a cam lock, or a drawer stop that’s broken, order the matching part and snap it in. That’s a $10 fix and you don’t need us for it.

What you should not do is fight a failed hinge with longer screws, jam a stripped slide back onto its mount, or build out a sagging cabinet corner with glue and hope. Those are the jobs where we see Austin homeowners compound a $300 repair into a $1,200 cabinet resurfacing. When the part that failed is load-bearing or the hole it sat in is worn out, call us at (903) 623-1966 before you make it worse. Tell me what’s wrong with it. We’ll figure out what it actually needs.
