Dvele Driveway & Pavers: The Austin Owner’s Guide
Dvele driveway and paver replacement in Austin typically runs $7,000 – $18,000 installed, depending on square footage, paver type, and whether the base needs rebuilding. We stock Dvele-compatible pavers and can usually have a crew on site within a few days of your call. Most Austin homeowners discover the problem the hard way: a paver shifts under a car tire, water pools where it never pooled before, or a section sinks after a heavy rain and stays sunk.
We’re an independent service provider. We install and repair Dvele driveway and paver systems, but we’re not affiliated with Dvele. What that means for you: we work on these systems regularly, we know what fails and why, and we’ll tell you straight whether a repair makes sense or the whole driveway needs redoing.
Which Dvele Models This Applies To

Dvele homes in the Austin area typically use one of two paver setups: modular concrete pavers in a standard 16″x16″ or 24″x24″ format, or a smaller-format paver with a permeable joint system for drainage. The compatibility gotcha most owners run into is thickness. Some Dvele driveways use 80mm pavers rated for vehicle traffic, while pedestrian areas use 60mm. If you buy 60mm pavers for a driveway, they’ll crack under the first delivery truck.
How to identify what you have: flip a loose paver and check the underside for a thickness stamp. If no stamp, measure with a ruler. The parking area needs 80mm minimum. For OEM versus aftermarket, Dvele’s original pavers are sourced from major manufacturers, and we can match color and texture with quality equivalents from Belgard, Unilock, or Techo-Bloc when the original line is discontinued. We’ll show you samples side by side against your existing pavers before ordering anything.

Signs Your Dvele Driveway & Pavers Are Failing
- Sinking or rut formation in the wheel paths. This is almost always a base failure, not a paver failure. Austin’s clay-heavy soil expands and contracts with moisture, and if the base wasn’t compacted to spec, those pavers will drop. Replacing individual pavers won’t fix it; the base has to come up.
- Wide or crumbling joints. The polymeric sand between pavers breaks down over time. When rain washes it out, pavers lose lateral support and begin to shift. You’ll see gaps of a quarter inch or more where there used to be a tight seam.
- Water pooling in flat areas. A properly installed paver driveway slopes about 1/4″ per foot. If water sits for more than a few hours after rain, your slope has flattened, often because the base settled. Left alone, this accelerates paver deterioration and creates a slipping hazard on moss.
- Surface flaking or spalling on individual pavers. Austin’s freeze-thaw cycles are mild, but they’re not zero. Moisture trapped in a paver expands in a cold snap and pops the surface. Spalled pavers usually need replacement, not repair.
- Edge pavers separating from the border or curb. The edge restraint is what keeps the whole field locked together. When a plastic or aluminum edge starts failing, the outer pavers drift outward, and that movement creeps inward over time.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Austin, a full Dvele-style paver driveway replacement runs $7,000 – $18,000. Here’s what drives the range:
| Scope | Typical Austin Range |
|---|---|
| Partial paver replacement (under 200 sq ft) | $2,500 – $5,000 |
| Full driveway base rebuild + new pavers | $7,000 – $14,000 |
| Large driveway with drainage work | $12,000 – $18,000 |
We give you a written price before any work starts. That price includes demolition and haul-off of the old pavers, base excavation and rebuild with compacted stone, edge restraint, paver installation, and polymeric sand. It also includes permits when required. There are no change orders unless you ask for a change. Our workmanship on paver installations is covered for 365 days from completion date.
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing a single cracked paver is a job a careful homeowner can do: pry it up with two flat bars, clean out the old sand, drop in the new paver, sweep in fresh polymeric sand. What a homeowner should not attempt is a base rebuild. That means excavating 6 – 8 inches of material, hauling it off, bringing in new stone, and compacting in lifts. Without a plate compactor and a laser level, you’ll have a driveway that fails again in two years.
Paver work isn’t dangerous the way springs or wiring are, but it’s heavy, unforgiving labor. A pallet of 80mm pavers weighs about 3,000 pounds. If you’re unsure whether you need a few pavers or a full base rebuild, call (903) 623-1966 and describe what you’re seeing. As Isaac Pruett puts it: “Tell me what’s wrong with it. We’ll figure out what it actually needs.”
FAQs

A properly installed paver driveway with a solid base should last 25 – 30 years in Austin’s climate. The pavers themselves will survive that long; what fails is usually the base or the edge restraint, not the stone.
Yes, when the base under the rest of the driveway is still sound, we can cut out the failed section, rebuild the base, and replace only those pavers. If the base is failing across the whole driveway, spot repairs won’t last. Call (903) 623-1966 and we’ll walk the driveway with you before you commit to anything.
A typical single-home driveway takes 3 – 5 working days from demo to finished sanding, weather permitting. Larger driveways or projects with drainage work can stretch to a week.
We source pavers directly through our partnerships with major manufacturers, including Belgard, Unilock, and Techo-Bloc, and we arrange delivery to your property. You won’t have to pick up a single pallet. We also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone on other parts of the home, so most exterior and interior finish needs run through one supplier.
If your Dvele driveway needs a proper look from someone who’s done this in Austin for years, call (903) 623-1966 for a free estimate. A live person answers, every day of the year.
