Quikrete Fence Installation: The Austin Owner’s Guide

Quikrete fence installation in Austin typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a complete post-and-panel setup, including concrete footing work, materials, and labor. We stock Quikrete Fast-Setting Concrete Mix and Quikrete 5000 on our trucks, so we can usually start the same week you call, not next month. Most Austin homeowners discover their fence has a problem the hard way: a post wobbles after a hard rain, a gate starts dragging, or a section leans into the neighbor’s yard after a good Texas windstorm. The concrete footing is almost always where it starts. When the base fails, the whole fence follows.

We’re an independent Austin contractor, not affiliated with Quikrete. But we’ve been setting posts with their products for years, and we know exactly which mix works for our soil, our freeze-and-thaw realities, and the wind loads common in Travis County. If your Quikrete fence is leaning, cracking at the base, or the posts have started to heave, this page will tell you what’s wrong and what it actually costs to fix it right.

Which Quikrete Models This Applies To

Quikrete doesn’t make fence panels or posts. They make the concrete that holds the posts in the ground. So when we talk about Quikrete fence installation, we’re talking about the footing system: the mix, the depth, the post base, and how it all works together. The relevant Quikrete products are Fast-Setting Concrete Mix (which sets in about 20 to 40 minutes), Quikrete 5000 (a 5,000 PSI mix for high-load posts like gates and corners), and standard Quikrete Concrete Mix for general post setting.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most Austin owners don’t know: Fast-Setting Mix is convenient, but in Austin’s clay-heavy soil it can cure too quickly on a hot afternoon and leave air pockets around the post. We typically use Quikrete 5000 for gate posts and corner posts in Austin, because those carry the most lateral load, and Fast-Setting only for straight-run posts in early morning or cooler months. If a previous installer used Fast-Setting on a gate post during a July heatwave, that’s often why the gate post is now listing. OEM versus aftermarket isn’t really the question here. The question is whether the right mix was used for the right post, at the right depth, for our specific soil conditions.

Signs Your Quikrete Fence Installation Is Failing

  • The post wobbles when you push it, but the wood itself looks fine. That means the concrete footing has cracked or shrunk away from the post. In Austin’s expansive clay soil, this happens when dry summers pull moisture out of the ground and the soil contracts around the footing.
  • The fence leans in one direction after a storm. This usually means the post was set too shallow, or the concrete was mixed too wet and never reached proper strength. Wind loads on a 6-foot fence are real, and a shallow footing fails fast.
  • You can see a gap between the concrete and the post, or the concrete has cracked at ground level. Water gets in that gap, sits against the post base, and starts the rot cycle. In Austin, this gets worse every freeze-thaw winter.
  • Gates sag, drag, or won’t latch. The gate post carries the entire weight of the gate plus the swinging force every time someone opens it. If that post moves even half an inch, the gate geometry shifts and nothing lines up.
  • The post has heaved up out of the ground by an inch or more. This is the signature of Austin’s shrink-swell clay. The soil swells when wet and shrinks when dry, and a shallow footing rides that movement like a pogo stick until it works its way loose.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled family room with new windows and a window seat

A full Quikrete fence installation in Austin runs $3,500 to $9,000 depending on linear footage, fence height, post spacing, gate hardware, and whether we’re dealing with old concrete that needs to be dug out first. A single post reset, where we dig out a failed footing and pour a new one, usually runs $200 to $500 per post depending on depth and access. Most repairs fall between $400 and $1,800 when multiple posts are involved.

Here’s what’s included in our price: removal of the old concrete footing where needed, new Quikrete mix matched to the post type and soil condition, proper depth per Austin wind load requirements, post leveling and alignment, and cleanup of all excavation debris. We give you a written price before work starts. No verbal estimates that grow on the final bill. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the fence settles, shifts, or the concrete cracks within a year of completion, we come back and fix it at no charge.

Service Typical Austin Price Range
Full Quikrete fence installation (new build) $3,500 – $9,000
Single post reset (dig, re-set, re-pour) $200 – $500
Multi-post repair (3 – 6 posts) $600 – $1,800
Gate post replacement with Quikrete 5000 $350 – $700

DIY or Call Us?

Setting a fence post isn’t like assembling furniture. The dangerous parts are the post hole digging itself (Austin soil hides limestone shelves that break auger bits and wrists) and getting the depth wrong, which dooms the whole job. You can safely check your own fence: push each post, look for gaps at the base, check if gates still latch cleanly. That tells you which posts are failing. But if the post is load-bearing (a gate post or corner post), or if the old concrete needs to be dug out with equipment, that’s where DIY goes sideways. A gate post that fails after you reset it isn’t just annoying, it’s a falling-weight hazard when the gate comes down.

If you’re in Austin and you’ve got a fence post that’s starting to move, call us at (903) 623-1966. As Isaac Pruett puts it: “Tell me what’s wrong with it. We’ll figure out what it actually needs.” We’ll give you a straight answer and a written price, and you can decide from there.
