ActiveYards Driveway & Pavers: The Austin Owner’s Guide

ActiveYards driveway and paver replacement in Austin typically runs $7,000–$18,000 installed, depending on the size of the paved area, the ActiveYards pattern you’re matching, and what’s underneath the surface. We stock ActiveYards-compatible pavers and edging in the most common Austin patterns, and we can usually match an existing install on the first visit. Most owners figure out there’s a problem the same way: a paver has cracked under a truck tire, a section has sunk after a heavy rain, or the edging has pulled loose and the whole edge is starting to wander.

Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

ActiveYards sells pavers and driveway systems under a few different product lines, and the compatibility rules matter more than most people expect. The biggest gotcha: ActiveYards pavers are manufactured in specific thicknesses (typically 60mm for residential driveways, 80mm for commercial or heavier loads), and you can’t mix thicknesses in the same run without creating a lip that catches tires and snow shovels. If your original install used 60mm pavers, the replacement has to be 60mm, even if a thicker paver is technically stronger. We verify the thickness and the pattern code before we order anything.

On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: ActiveYards pavers are made by a specific manufacturer, and we can source genuine ActiveYards pavers when they’re still in production. For older patterns that have been discontinued, we work with quality aftermarket equivalents that match the dimensions and color blend closely enough that the repair disappears into the existing layout. If you’re not sure what line you have, check the underside of a loose paver or the box from the original install. If that’s gone, send us a photo and we’ll identify it. Mason Remodeling Co Austin is an independent service provider; we’re not affiliated with ActiveYards, which means we’re free to tell you honestly when a discontinued pattern isn’t worth chasing and a close match is the smarter money.

Signs Your ActiveYards Driveway & Pavers Are Failing

  • Sunken or dipped sections. This is almost always a base problem, not a paver problem. Austin’s clay soil expands when wet and shrinks when dry, and a base that wasn’t compacted in lifts will settle unevenly within a few years. The pavers are fine; the ground under them gave up.
  • Cracked pavers along the tire path. A paver that cracks where vehicles drive is usually too thin for the load. 60mm works for passenger cars, but if you park a full-size truck or an RV, the constant point load will eventually snap them. We swap in a thicker or stronger replacement.
  • Edging pulling away from the driveway. The plastic or aluminum edging that holds the outside row in place takes a beating from lawn mowers, tree roots, and Austin’s dry-summer/wet-spring cycle. Once the edging lets go, pavers start drifting outward and the whole edge line gets wavy.
  • Weeds or ants coming up between pavers. Polymeric sand breaks down over time, especially with heavy rain and sun exposure. When the joints are empty, weeds take over and ants build nests in the base material beneath the pavers.
  • Standing water after rain. A properly pitched paver driveway sheds water in a predictable direction. If water pools in the middle after a normal Austin downpour, the surface has settled out of pitch and needs to be lifted, re-based, and re-laid.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Paver driveway installation in Austin runs $7,000–$18,000 for a full new driveway, and that range is driven mostly by square footage, the base depth required, and the ActiveYards pattern. For a partial repair — a sunken section, a cracked paver cluster, or a failed edge — you’re typically looking at $400–$2,500 depending on how far the problem runs and whether the base needs to be re-excavated or just re-leveled. We give you a written price before any work starts, broken into parts, base material, and labor. No verbal ballparks that grow on the final invoice.

Every job includes haul-off of the old pavers and failed base material, compaction in lifts, fresh bedding sand, and re-installation with the correct joint sand. Our workmanship is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right within a year of completion, we make it right at no cost.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things an Austin homeowner can safely check and handle: pulling a weed from a joint, topping off polymeric sand in a small area, or hosing out a clogged drain channel. Those are maintenance, not repair. What we’d steer you away from is lifting a settled paver section yourself. The problem is almost never the paver; it’s the base underneath, and if you re-lay pavers on an uncompacted base, you’ll be back in the same spot next spring after the clay goes through one more wet-dry cycle. Lifting pavers also means dealing with heavy stone in the Texas heat, and a thrown-out back costs more than the repair.

If a section has sunk, cracked, or started wandering, call us at (903) 623-1966. We’ll come out, look at the base, and tell you straight what it needs and what it costs. The estimate is free.
