CWS Driveway & Pavers: The Austin Owner’s Guide
If you have a CWS driveway or paver installation that’s cracking, shifting, or losing joints, we can match the existing material profile and install a replacement section that blends with what you already have. A paver driveway repair or section rebuild in Austin typically runs $700 to $4,500 depending on square footage, drainage work, and base material condition, while a full new CWS-style paver driveway install falls between $7,000 and $18,000. Most paver section repairs are same-week jobs once we confirm material availability. The way most Austin homeowners find us: they’ve got a paver that’s sunk an inch, a joint that’s opened up to the Texas sun, or a driveway edge that’s started crumbling after a hard drought year followed by a two-day gully washer.
Which CWS Models This Applies To
CWS driveway and paver products aren’t a single model line, they’re a category built around concrete or stone pavers, edge restraints, base aggregate, and joint sand. What matters is the paver thickness and dimensional spec, typically 60mm for residential driveways and 80mm for heavier vehicle traffic, and the joint width your original installer used. Two gotchas we see in Austin: first, matching color is far harder than matching size, because Texas UV exposure bleaches the top surface of pavers while the underside keeps original color. Second, paver lots vary slightly between production runs, so an exact color match often means pulling replacement pavers from a shaded or less-worn section of your existing driveway and blending new product elsewhere. We carry a range of standard 4×8, 6×9, and 8×8 paver profiles in natural and charcoal tones, and we source OEM-grade product through professional hardscaping suppliers, including Belgard, Unilock, and Techo-Bloc. For older CWS installs, a quality aftermarket paver with the same dimensional spec and joint tolerance will perform as well or better than the original, especially if the original has been discontinued or the color lot has shifted. Mason Remodeling Co Austin is an independent service provider and is not affiliated with CWS.

Signs Your CWS Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Sinking or rutted pavers, especially near the garage approach or street apron. Austin’s clay-rich soils expand and contract with every wet-dry cycle, and the base material under older CWS installs was often compacted too thin. Once the base fails, pavers sink and water pools in the low spot, which accelerates the failure.
- Joint sand washing out after rain. If you see sand running into the street or gutter during a downpour, the paver joint system has opened up. In Austin’s flash-flood rain patterns, loose joints let water undercut the base, which is exactly how you get the sink-and-shift problem above.
- Edge pavers shifting or tipping outward. The edge restraint has failed or was never installed properly. Once the perimeter lets go, the whole field can creep, especially on a driveway with any slope at all.
- White haze or surface spalling on paver tops. Austin’s sun and hard water are rough on paver surfaces. Spalling means the paver face is degrading faster than the body, usually from repeated wet-sun cycles or de-icing salts. It’s cosmetic at first but opens the paver to faster structural wear.
- Weeds or ants coming up through joints consistently. One weed is a garden problem. A line of ant mounds or weeds across the driveway means the joint sand is gone below the surface and the base is no longer sealed off from what’s underneath.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Austin, a paver section repair with base recompaction, new joint sand, and matching replacement pavers runs roughly $700 to $2,500 for a typical failing area. A full driveway re-pave with a new compacted base, whether you’re reusing some existing pavers or replacing all of them, runs $7,000 to $18,000 depending on size, access, drainage corrections, and whether we’re replacing the base material or just re-leveling what’s there. The biggest cost driver is almost always the base: if the original install skimped on crushed limestone or compaction, no surface fix will hold longer than a couple of Austin seasons. Our written price includes pavers, base material, joint sand, edge restraints where needed, haul-off of failed material, and labor. It’s a fixed number, in writing, before we start. There is no change order mid-job, and if we hit a drainage issue we didn’t anticipate, we’ll tell you what we found, what the options look like, and what the adjusted price is before you’re asked to spend another dollar. Workmanship is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something’s not right within a year of completion, we come back and fix it at no cost.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do three things: pull a loose paver or two and look at the base underneath, check whether your joint sand is still in place after the next rain, and measure the visible paver dimensions so we know what profile we’re matching. What you shouldn’t do is pull up a large section and start re-leveling. Paver work looks simple, but a driveway that gets daily vehicle load needs a properly compacted base at the right depth and moisture, and a flat compacted subgrade. Get that wrong and you’ve taken a $900 repair and turned it into a $9,000 rebuild a year from now. Most importantly, if you see a low spot anywhere near the garage or street apron, water is actively widening the failure every time it rains. Call us at (903) 623-1966 and we’ll come look at it. FAQs

With a properly compacted base and intact joint sand, a paver driveway in Austin should last 20 to 30 years before the base itself needs major work. The pavers themselves often last longer than that. What fails first in Austin is almost always the base or the edge restraint, not the paver itself. If your base was thin from day one, you may see problems in as little as five to eight years.
If the failure is confined to one area and the pavers themselves aren’t spalled or broken, we can usually pull that section, recompact the base, reset the pavers, and re-sand the joints. If the base has failed across the whole driveway or the pavers are degrading, replacement is the honest answer. Call (903) 623-1966 and we’ll tell you which one you actually need.
Most section repairs take one to two days on site, including base recompaction, paver reset, and joint sand. A full driveway replacement is typically three to five days depending on access and how much excavation the old base requires. We schedule as soon as we know which path you’ve chosen.
We carry a working stock of standard 4×8, 6×9, and 8×8 profiles in the most common Austin finishes, plus base and joint sand. For larger replacement jobs, we pull from professional hardscaping suppliers we work with regularly, including Belgard, Unilock, and Techo-Bloc. If you’re not sure what you have, take a couple clear photos and we’ll identify it before we ever set foot on your property.
