CGI Driveway & Pavers: The Austin Owner’s Guide
We stock and install CGI-compatible driveway and paver components across Austin, with typical paver driveway installation running $7,000 to $18,000 depending on square footage, base condition, and pattern complexity. If you have a failed CGI paver, cracked edging, or a section that’s sinking, we can usually match it and schedule the repair within a few days, not weeks. Most Austin homeowners discover the problem the same way: after a heavy rain, a tree root pushes up, or a paver cracks under the weight of a truck that parks in the same spot every day. The good news is that pavers are modular, so a failed section rarely means replacing the whole driveway.
We’re an independent Austin contractor, not affiliated with CGI. We work with CGI pavers regularly because they’re common in newer subdivisions around Mueller, Circle C, and Steiner Ranch, and we keep the tools and edging materials on hand to match them correctly.
Which CGI Models This Applies To

CGI manufactures interlocking concrete pavers in several product lines, and the compatibility gotcha in Austin is real: two CGI pavers from different production runs can vary in color by enough to be visible in direct sunlight. Always check the lot code stamped on the underside of a spare paver before ordering replacements. The most common CGI lines we see in Austin driveways are the Holland Stone, the 3-piece modular system (often called a “random” pattern because it mixes three sizes), and the larger slab-style pavers used for contemporary homes. Each has different joint widths and thicknesses, usually 60mm for residential driveways and 80mm for areas that see heavier vehicles.
For OEM versus aftermarket, the honest answer is that pavers are more forgiving than mechanical parts. A quality aftermarket paver from a local Austin supplier can match CGI dimensions and color closely, often at 15 to 20 percent less than OEM. But if the driveway is less than five years old and you care about exact color match, OEM from the original manufacturer is worth the extra cost. We’ll pull a paver, check the lot code, and tell you which route makes sense before you spend a dollar.

Signs Your CGI Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Paver sinking in one or two spots: Almost always a base failure underneath, not a paver problem. Austin’s clay soil expands and contracts with moisture, and without a proper crushed-limestone base, sections settle unevenly. We lift the pavers, re-compact the base, and relay them.
- Hairline cracks across multiple pavers in a line: This usually means a vehicle load exceeded what the base was built for, or a tree root is pressing up from below. The pattern of the crack tells you which one it is. A straight line across several pavers points to a load issue; a curved or wandering crack points to roots.
- Edging pavers shifting outward: The plastic or aluminum edge restraint has failed or was never installed. Without it, the whole perimeter slowly migrates, especially on sloped Austin driveways. We replace the restraint and reset the edge course.
- Joint sand washing out after every rain: Austin’s downpours are hard on paver joints. If sand disappears after each storm, the joints were likely filled with regular sand instead of polymeric sand. Polymeric sand hardens when wet and resists erosion far better.
- White haze or color fading on the paver surface: Austin’s UV is relentless, and cheaper sealers can chalk within two to three years. Efflorescence, the white mineral deposit, is cosmetic and cleanable. Fading from UV is permanent and means the original sealer failed.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full paver driveway installation in Austin, expect $7,000 to $18,000. Most homes fall in the $9,000 to $13,000 range for a two-car driveway with proper base prep. If you’re replacing just a failed section, the math changes: figure $12 to $18 per square foot for the repair area, including demolition, base re-compaction, new pavers, and joint sand. Edging replacement alone runs $4 to $8 per linear foot.
What moves the price? Access matters. A driveway behind a gate in Tarrytown takes longer than one with open street frontage in Pflugerville. Base depth matters too: Austin code and good practice call for 6 to 8 inches of compacted base under driveway pavers, and skimping here is why many installs fail early. Our written price includes all labor, materials, haul-away of the old material, and the polymeric sand. You get the number before we start, and it doesn’t change unless you change the scope.
DIY or Call Us?
Pavers are one of the safer driveway repairs to attempt yourself, and we’ll be straight about that. You can safely lift a sunken paver, check what’s underneath, and sweep fresh sand into joints. What we see go wrong in Austin is when homeowners try to fix the base without the right compaction equipment or attempt to replace a large section without matching the existing pattern. A hand tamper doesn’t achieve the density a plate compactor does, and the repair will sink again within a season. If the issue is one or two pavers and you’re handy, go for it. If it’s a base failure, edge migration, or anything larger than a few square feet, call us at (903) 623-1966 and we’ll give you an honest read and a written price.
FAQs

A properly installed CGI paver driveway lasts 25 to 40 years in Austin, with the base being the limiting factor rather than the paver itself. The pavers are concrete and will outlast the base if the base was built thin. Expect to reapply joint sand every 3 to 5 years and re-seal every 4 to 6 years given Austin’s sun and rain cycles.
A cracked paver is replaced, not repaired, because concrete doesn’t heal and the crack will only widen with weather and load. The good news is that a single paver replacement is inexpensive, usually $75 to $200 with labor included. Call (903) 623-1966 for an exact quote.
Replacing a failed section of CGI pavers, including base re-compaction, usually takes one day for sections under 100 square feet. We protect the area overnight if needed and you can typically drive on it the next day once the joint sand is set and lightly watered.
We keep the most common CGI pavers in stock on our trucks for small repairs, especially the Holland Stone in standard gray and tan. For larger replacements or less common colors, we source them from local Austin suppliers within 2 to 3 business days, and we always check the lot code before ordering to keep the color match tight.
