IKO Windows & Doors: The Austin Owner’s Guide

IKO windows and doors in Austin typically need replacement or repair when seals fail, rollers wear out, or frames warp from our heat and humidity swings. You’ll usually spend $400 – $1,800 for a targeted repair, while a full IKO-compatible replacement door or window runs $4,500 – $15,000 installed in the Austin market. Most owners discover the problem the hard way: a sliding door that suddenly drags, a window that fogs between the panes, or a latch that no longer catches. We stock common replacement hardware and can source IKO-specific components fast, usually within a few business days.

We’re Mason Remodeling Co Austin, an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with IKO, but we work on their product lines regularly and know which parts cross over and which don’t.

Which IKO Models This Applies To

IKO’s window and door lines vary by era and installation. The most common units we see in Austin homes are their vinyl sliding patio doors, single-hung and double-hung vinyl windows, and casement windows. If your unit has a label, look for it on the frame edge or inside the track. The label will list a manufacturing code, and often a glass spec like “Low-E 366” or “Argon-filled.” That tells us which glazing package you have. Without the label, we can match by measuring the sash thickness, track width, and roller diameter.

One compatibility gotcha with IKO sliding doors: the roller assemblies changed between manufacturing runs. Older doors used a 1-1/4″ steel roller with a screw-adjust housing. Newer units moved to a nylon roller with a snap-in design. The two don’t interchange. We carry both styles on the truck, but we always confirm the roller before quoting because the wrong one will bind the door and chew up the track.

For the OEM-versus-aftermarket question, here’s the honest answer: genuine IKO parts are not always necessary. For seals, sweeps, and rollers, a quality aftermarket part from a brand like Prime-Line or CR Laurence often matches or outlasts the original, and costs less. For glass packs and full sash replacements, we recommend staying with OEM IKO wherever possible because the glazing specs and frame notches are exact. Austin’s sun exposure is brutal on vinyl, so a mismatched sash can fade unevenly within two summers.

Signs Your IKO Windows & Doors Is Failing

  • Fog or condensation between the glass panes. The insulated glass unit seal has failed. Once that happens, the argon gas escapes and the window loses its thermal performance. This is a sealed unit replacement, not a cleaning job.
  • A sliding door that scrapes, skips, or needs a shove. The rollers are worn flat, or the track has bent from years of Texas heat expanding the frame. Forcing it makes the problem worse and can crack the frame corner.
  • A window that falls shut or won’t stay open. The balance or spiral spring inside the side jamb has failed. On double-hungs, this is a two-person repair if you value your fingers. The sash is heavier than it looks.
  • Drafts around the frame, even when the door or window is closed. The weatherstripping or sweep has degraded. In Austin, this shows up first in August when the AC runs constantly and you can feel heat bleeding through.
  • A latch or lock that no longer aligns. The door or window has settled, or the frame has warped slightly. For sliding doors this often means the keeper has worn down and needs a shim or replacement.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled staircase with wood treads and a slim metal railing

In Austin, a targeted IKO hardware repair, like roller replacement or a new latch set, runs $400 – $800 including parts and labor. A full weatherstripping and seal job on a patio door runs $300 – $600. If the glass unit itself is shot, an IKO-compatible insulated glass replacement runs $600 – $2,500 depending on size and Low-E coating. A complete IKO window replacement runs $4,500 – $15,000 depending on how many units and the frame condition. A full sliding door replacement, installed, lands between $3,000 and $8,500.

What drives the range: glass spec (standard Low-E versus triple-pane), frame damage, accessibility, and whether we’re matching an existing finish. Every job gets a written price before we touch a tool. No change orders mid-job, no surprises on the invoice. Our labor carries a 365-day Done Right Promise: if the install fails within a year of completion, we come back and fix it at no cost.

Parts are invoiced separately from labor so you see exactly what the component costs versus what we charge to install it.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s where we tell you the truth, even if it means you don’t hire us for the small stuff. You can safely clean tracks, lubricate rollers, tighten visible screws on handles, and replace a door sweep with a screwdriver and a hacksaw. Those are legitimate owner jobs.

What you should not DIY: glass unit replacement, spring balances on double-hung windows, and any job requiring you to remove a sash from an upper-story window. Window sashes are heavy. A double-hung sash can weigh 30 pounds or more, and the springs are under constant tension. If one lets go while you’re working on it, you’re dealing with broken glass and a hand injury. We’ve also seen homeowners crack the vinyl frame by prying on the wrong spot, which turns a $400 repair into a $4,500 replacement.

If you’re not sure which category your problem falls into, call us at (903) 623-1966. Tell me what’s wrong with it. We’ll figure out what it actually needs. If we can talk you through a ten-dollar fix over the phone, we will.
