Schluter Roofing: The Austin Owner’s Guide
If you have a Schluter roofing system in Austin and a part has failed, we can source and install the correct replacement. Installed pricing for Schluter-compatible roofing repairs in Austin typically runs $400 to $1,800 depending on the component and the extent of the damage, and most single-part swaps are done in a day. What owners usually notice first is a small leak near a flashing point, or a trim piece that has pulled away from the roofline after a hard Texas storm.
Schluter is better known for tile waterproofing (KERDI, DITRA) than full roofing systems, but their metal edge profiles and flashing components do appear on some Austin roof assemblies, often as trim, drip edges, or transition pieces. When one of those fails, water finds its way in slowly. You’ll see a stain on the ceiling weeks before you ever see the part that caused it.
We stock common Schluter metal profiles on the truck and can order less common ones fast. If you’re not sure what part you have, call us at (903) 623-1966 and describe what you’re seeing. As Isaac Pruett says, “Tell me what’s wrong with it. We’ll figure out what it actually needs.”
Which Schluter Models This Applies To

Schluter’s roofing-relevant products fall into a few families: metal edge profiles (like the Schluter BARA series used at roof terminations and parapet caps), transition strips where roofing membrane meets wall flashing, and drainage components. The compatibility gotcha with Schluter is that their profiles are sized to specific membrane thicknesses. A BARA-RT is not interchangeable with a BARA-RK simply because they look similar at a glance. The profile height and the anchoring leg dimensions are different, and using the wrong one leaves a gap that water will find.
To identify what you have, look at the end of the metal piece. Schluter stamps their profile codes on the underside or on the packaging. If the piece is still installed but failing, take a photo of the profile shape from the end and measure the exposed face height in millimeters. A genuine Schluter profile will be made from aluminum or stainless and will carry a consistent anodized finish. Aftermarket equivalents exist and can work, but we’ve seen cheaper aluminum profiles in Austin corrode at the cut edges within three years due to humidity and rain cycling. For roofs, we generally recommend OEM Schluter or a marine-grade aluminum substitute, not a basic hardware-store profile.
One other thing worth knowing: Schluter components installed on roofs are typically part of a larger waterproofing assembly, which means the failed part may have a companion component that is also wearing. We check both before we quote, because replacing one without inspecting the other leads to a second repair in twelve months.

Signs Your Schluter Roofing Is Failing
- Water staining at a wall-to-roof transition. This is the classic tell. The Schluter edge profile has separated from the membrane or the wall substrate, and rainwater is tracking behind it. In Austin’s summer storms, this shows up as a slow, persistent drip long before it becomes a visible puddle.
- Lifted or bowed metal edge profile. Thermal cycling in Austin, where roof surfaces can swing 60 degrees in a single day during spring, causes aluminum to expand and contract. Over time, weak anchoring points fatigue and the profile pulls away from the roofline.
- White oxidation or pitting on the metal surface. Austin’s humidity plus airborne pollen and occasional salt in coastal air means aluminum profiles without proper anodizing will start to corrode. If you see chalky residue, the protective layer is gone and the profile will continue degrading.
- Gaps at profile seams or corner joints. Schluter profiles have factory-cut angles and joining pieces, but years of expansion and contraction can open seams. A 1/16-inch gap is enough for capillary action to pull water upward and inward.
- Loose fasteners or missing screws. Some Schluter profiles rely on mechanical fastening with covered screw channels. When screws back out due to vibration from Austin’s frequent thunderstorms and the occasional hailstorm, the profile shifts and the seal breaks. This is a repair we handle on its own before it becomes a leak.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Schluter roofing component replacement in Austin, expect installed costs to land between $400 and $1,800. The low end covers a single straight-run profile replacement with the adjacent membrane resealed. The high end covers multiple failed profiles, corner transitions, and remediation of water damage to the underlying sheathing if the leak sat long enough to rot wood. Most jobs we see fall in the $500 to $1,000 range.
Every quote from Mason Remodeling Co Austin includes the cost of the Schluter part, the anchoring hardware, the sealant and flashing materials, and labor. We deliver a written price before any work starts, and that price does not change once the job begins unless we uncover damage that was not visible during the initial inspection. If we do find something, we stop and show you before proceeding. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails within a year of completion, we return and make it right at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
There are two things any Austin homeowner can reasonably do: take photos of the damaged profile from multiple angles (including the end profile shape), and document any water staining on the interior ceiling with a date written on painter’s tape. That helps us identify the part before we arrive.
What we would not recommend is removing a roof edge profile yourself. Roof work at height carries real risk, and the profile is often under tension from years of thermal expansion. Cutting or yanking it loose without knowing how the membrane is anchored underneath can tear the waterproofing and turn a $600 profile replacement into a full membrane repair. Schluter profiles sit in a system; pulling one piece out without knowing what it’s anchored to is how small leaks become big ones. If you are comfortable on a ladder and just want to check whether screws are backing out or a seam has opened, that’s useful information for us. Just don’t start loosening things. FAQs

In Austin’s climate, a properly installed Schluter aluminum profile can last 15 to 25 years, but the sealants and membrane interfaces around it typically need attention at the 10- to 12-year mark. Heat, UV exposure, and storm-driven rain shorten lifespan compared to milder climates. Call (903) 623-1966 for an inspection if your roof is in that age range.
Sometimes yes, if the failure is limited to sealant separation or a few backed-out screws. If the profile itself is corroded, bent, or split at a seam, replacement is the honest fix, because patching metal in a wet location rarely holds beyond a season or two. We’ll tell you which situation you have after looking at it. Estimates are free.
Most single-profile replacements in Austin take one day from start to finish, including removing the old piece, inspecting the membrane underneath, installing the new Schluter profile, and resealing all interfaces. Larger jobs with multiple profiles or sheathing repairs run two to three days. We’ll give you a written schedule with the written price before work begins.
We keep common Schluter edge profiles and transition strips on the truck for Austin service calls, along with compatible anchors and sealants. Less common profile codes or special-order finishes typically arrive within three to five business days. If you’re not sure what you have, call (903) 623-1966 and we’ll help you identify it before ordering anything.
